I chose to review Kiarra’s blog because I reviewed her blog in my first review and found her blog to be very attractive and engaging.
1. In your blog, you discuss “what new media is and what it is not”. One example in which you made a clear, specific connection is when earlier in your blog you included a picture of our textbook and “how it is a valuable resource for students across media and communication studies”. Another example Was when you included two interviews with Eugenia Siapera where she talks about new media and social media. Through these examples, you not only spoke on the topic of New Media but provided the resources you found important to support your stance on the topic.
2. Your blog defines new media as understanding the past and present views. Your blog does this by making connections between New Media, its positive effects on society and its negative effects. The one feature of your blog that nails the concept of new media is the YouTube video you included. This YouTube video was titled “How to Protect Your Personal and Financial Information from Identity Theft”. This video shows how New Media makes life so much simpler by giving quick access to your bank information and shop at many stores while you are sitting in your pajamas. This video shows how life made simpler by New Media can also make it easier for a person to still your identity. This video highlights the negative views that go along with the positive views of New Media.
3. This blog makes creative use of the possibilities of the medium using multiple YouTube videos. These videos help enhance your blog and allow the viewers not only to read about New Media but watch videos on what New Media is. In your blog, you included links to YouTube videos that go along with the topic you were discussing. The viewer doesn’t have to copy and paste a link or look for the video through a search instead they can find it on your blog. New Media society has access to multiple sources all in one area.

1. This blog’s most recent post: “New Media: The Dark Side”, discusses the more ominous uses of new media as described in Describing New Media. It specifically makes references to the concepts of The Panopticon and Synopticon. This post connects these concepts to current products and trends like the Ring doorbell and social media influencers. It goes even further, discussing other negative aspects of new media such as the degradation of privacy and the risk of being hacked. Overall, this post does a great job of condensing the information provided by the text whilst still expanding on these concepts.
2. This blog does a marvelous job of defining new media. Firstly, the blog itself is very well crafted, and is a great example of how new media can be used to provide information in a much more engaging way. The page titled “Understanding New Media Resources” hosts a plethora of podcasts, videos, and links to articles that serve to inform the reader about the subject matter. I think this page is the definite standout amongst the others, despite the rest of the blog being very well done.
3. As mentioned above, this blog utilizes this specific medium to great effect. It makes ample use of the organizational qualities of the medium by having separate pages for blog posts, an about page, and a section dedicated to research on the subject. The blog makes use of WordPress’ ability to embed various forms of digital media in the form of podcasts and videos that can be interacted with directly from the blog page. As I said previously, the “Resources” page does the best job of this, as it contains a remarkable amount of easy-to-access content.

Hello! This is Chelsea from your class and I reviewed your blog this week because I remembered your blog from our first assignment. You were the first person to post your blog and even in its beginning stages it was complete and impressive. I wanted to see how your project has progressed and it did not disappoint. Your blog is an excellent representation and use of new media. Below I listed three ways your blog incorporates a spectrum of new media elements.
1. Your blog makes clear, specific connections with our class readings. For example, you consistently created posts about the contents of our required readings. Within these blog posts, you expand on the required information by connecting the topics in your everyday life. For example, you shared how the topic of new media entered a financial literacy course you took (e.g. Paypal and Venmo) and you gave examples of how your own new media use relates to Siapera’s five parameters.
2. In addition to the text and information within each post, your blog defines new media best by showing its expansive capability. More specifically, you connected the reading points in your posts with an abundance of relevant new media such as: pictures, YouTube videos, hyperlinks to other websites, charts, and online test results, which enhances the meaning of your text. Although those areas of your blog are great, the feature of your blog that most succinctly nails the concept of new media is your “Understanding New Media Resources” page. This feature showcases the capability of new media. It enables easy access to an abundance of resources that help your readers further understand your topic; as a bonus, including this content adds to your credibility.
3. Your blog makes functional and creative use of WordPress. You’ve established excellent website organization for your content and its readers. More specifically, you created a primary menu (pages), a widget in your footer that links to your pages, and a clear site identity with a title and tagline. In addition to organizing your blog, you fill the medium with useful and interactive content. Some examples are: embedded links for YouTube videos, Amazon shopping, and Podcasts. One thing that caught my eye in one of your blog posts was the link to your “New Media For Dummies” Pinterest page. This one links exploits many of the possibilities in new media. It promotes and gives access to other media, connects people to usable information and community, and provides interaction through choice and the ability to leave comments. You certainly put a lot of thought and effort in this project and it rises to the top!

Hi Kiarra
I chose to review your post because it has a pleasing and credible look to it.
1) You made clear and specific connections with our reading by introducing Siapera’s text book. Along with a short introduction of the book, I also like that you included a picture and some links that take the reader to sites to preview and to purchase the book. I think that this is great because it makes it easy and time saving for people like me who are not savvy with technology.
2) Your blog defines new media in an array of ways like the videos and links that introduce the viewer to what media is. One in particular that helped me was the video titled “The connection between new media and art.” This video explores how art is present in all visuals that we consume. This visuals are consumed through new media in the movies, sports, life skills, and many more.
3) Your blog makes a creative use of the possibilities of the medium and it expresses it in a brief and clear way. You were able to take advantage of the features in WordPress to create a pleasing, yet professional looking blog that adds credibility to it. The menu pages, videos, and articles are samples of what is found in your blog. The one feature that I like is the links that take the reader to the sites where they can preview and purchase Siapera’s book. This feature is important for new users of new media like myself who do not know how to navigate the web as easily as other people.
