
Why should you write a post-interview thank you letter?
Sending a thank you email or letter to an interviewer shows your gratitude. It is another opportunity for you to “recap some of the conversational highlights” (Monster, n.d.). Most importantly, sending a thank you email or letter “is your final chance to make yourself stand apart from all of the others who want the same position” (Monster, n.d.). This illustrated procedure will explain how to write a thank you letter using Microsoft Word.
- Create a blank page on Microsoft Word.

- On the first line, type your first name, you middle initial, and your last name.

- On the second line, type your address.

- On the third line, type the city, state, and zip code of your address.

- Center all three lines.

- Type your phone number.

- Type your email.

- Type your LinkedIn URL address.

- Skip two lines then enter the date you are writing the cover letter.

- Align the date to the left.

- Skip a line then type the name of the hiring manager.

- Type the position of the individual.

- Type the name of the company.

- Type the address of the company.

- Type the city, state, and zip code of the company.

- Increase the indent of the five lines above to 1.15.

- Skip two lines.

- Type the word “Dear” followed by a comma then the interviewer’s name followed by a colon.

- Skip a line then type your introduction paragraph. Note: In this paragraph, include the date of your interview and the position you applied for, and any observations about the company.

- Type your second paragraph. Note: In this paragraph, emphasize your skills and qualities making you a good fit for the position.
- Write your third paragraph. Note:In this paragraph, thank your interviewer.

- Skip a line, then type the words “sincerely” followed by a comma.

- Add a handwritten signature on the next line.

- Type your name below.
